Broccoli

Broccoli isn’t just one of the world’s healthiest vegetables, it’s one D’Arrigo New York holds dear. In 1926, the first refrigerated railroad car of fresh vegetables in our country’s history was shipped from San Jose by Stephen D’Arrigo destined for his older brother Andrew in Boston. Eight days later the railcar of fresh broccoli reached its destination in good condition. The broccoli was unloaded and sold at a profit, marking the advent of the modern vegetable industry.
