Iceberg Lettuce

Iceberg lettuce was introduced in the 1940s and was the only variety of lettuce that survived travel without wilting because it was transported by trucks filled with ice (where the name derives from.) Composed of 96% water, iceberg lettuce has an extremely high water content. A staple in wedge salads and burgers, iceberg is not known for its health benefits.
